Build Daily Habits

Summary: Are you looking to build better habits? In this lesson you’ll learn how to use the Muryō Insert to track daily habits and form strong, positive routines.

Time needed: 3 minutes

Items needed:

Devise habits that support your goals and legend.

1.Your habits are microtasks that should support your larger goals and legend. If your Legend includes becoming the Director of Sales at your company, your goals might be oriented around demonstrating your value as a strong salesperson and leader. Your habits should work to support those goals at a more finite level. For example, you may want to build up the following habits:

  • Make 10 sales calls a day
  • Respond to all emails
  • Fill out sales reports

Record concise daily habits.

2. Write down your daily habits on your Muryō Insert. Admittedly there isn’t a ton of room to write long lines describing your habits, this is by design. You want the habits you list to be concise and to the point.

Check off your habits each day.

3.Use your pen or pencil to check off that you’ve completed a habit. If you notice, the Muryō Insert doesn’t have calendar days on the habit lines. There is a slightly bolder line to represent the beginning of each week. This allows you to start building habits any day you want, without having to wait to the beginning of the month.

When you complete a task for the day put a checkmark next to the habit. Over time you’ll be able to see how well you did building up your daily habits.

How to track habits that don’t require daily checkins.

4.Muryō doesn’t require that your habits be done each day. “Workout 3 times a week”, for example, doesn’t require a daily check. Let’s say you went to the gym on Monday and Tuesday, put a ✓ on those days. Wednesday and Thursday you skip a day, no problem leave those days blanks. If you get to the gym again before Sunday, just add another ✓ and congratulate yourself. If however, you didn’t make it to the gym again by the end of the week, add an ✗ to signify that you didn’t complete the week-long habit. Aim to see fewer ✗ marks each month and you’ll be building strong weekly habits.
